Does AO3 have a reading tracker?

No. AO3 has bookmarks (saved lists) and subscriptions (update emails), but nothing that remembers which chapter you left off on, which WIPs are behind, or what updated while you were busy. Readers fill that gap with spreadsheets, userscripts, or a tool like WIP Inbox.

How do I track what I've read on AO3?

The manual route is a spreadsheet — one row per fic, updated by hand every time you read a chapter. The automatic route is to forward your AO3 subscription emails to WIP Inbox, which pulls title, author, chapter, and word count straight from the notification and builds your shelf for you. No typing, no maintenance.

Can I track AO3 fics without a spreadsheet?

Yes. WIP Inbox reads the AO3 update emails you already receive and organizes them into Currently Reading, On Deck, and Library. Nothing to type, nothing to keep in sync. If you'd rather build your own with Google Sheets and Apps Script, we published a free DIY guide too — it's still a lot of setup, but it's yours.

Do I need to give you my AO3 login?

No. Never. WIP Inbox doesn't sign in to AO3, and there's no field to enter your password because we couldn't use it if you gave it to us. We only read the notification emails you choose to forward — the ones AO3 sends to your inbox already.

Do you scrape AO3?

No. We don't touch AO3's servers. WIP Inbox reads the update emails you forward, extracts what's already in them (title, author, chapter, word count, tags), and adds it to your shelf. Scraper-based trackers break when AO3 rate-limits them; ours can't, because there's nothing to break.

What about fics I'm already reading?
